Serves: 2-3

Prep Time: 8 hours

Bake Time: 7-8 hours

Beef jerky is a delicious, and fun item to snack on. In this instance, we decided to make Hawaiian jerky which has more of a teriyaki flavor profile. This recipe is not for the impatient, but is worth it in the end.

Ingredients

3 lb. flank steak

1 cup shoyu

1/4 cup water

1 tbsp oyster sauce

3 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp ginger

2 cloves garlic

2-3 tsp Hawaiian salt or rock salt

Instructions

  1. Tenderize the beef.

  2. Cut into long, thin slices.

  3. Place into a gallon sized bag, and add in the marinade. Let it marinate for 12 hours.

  4. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil, and place a cooling rack on top.

  5. Place the pieces on top.

  6. Bake in the oven at 175 degrees, and bake for 7-8 hours. It should look dark in color, and be pliable in texture.

  7. Rinse off the pieces after they cool, towel dry them and leave them out to dry completely. It helped to remove the ginger and garlic bites that baked onto the meat, and also removed the excess fat that cooled onto the pieces.

  8. Enjoy!
